Workshop information for Friday 26 April 2024

Who is the workshop for?

The workshop is suitable for beginners and for people who would like the opportunity to refresh their lino-printing skills using the equipment available. You don't need to be a fantastic drawer or to have had any prior experience... You do need to be able to hold a sharp cutting tool safely and securely.  The rest comes with guidance and practice, and that is what this workshop aims to provide. By the end of the workshop, you will have multiple copies of a lovely lino-reduction print image, each with up to four layers of ink. See the video below for a peek at what other course attendees have done...

You will learn how:

  • to adapt a design (from a choice of designs supplied by the tutor) ready for a lino print.
  • to cut and print your design in layers, colour by colour.
  • 'to register' your prints (i.e., line them up for each layer).
  • to ink a lino block and use a press.
  • to hang your prints to dry.
  • to set yourself up to carry on lino-printmaking at home after the workshop (because you're going to love it!).

Throughout the workshop I will introduce you to the materials that you will be using (all supplied); and I'll tell you where you can buy them too. I'll also be showing you the tips and tricks I use in my work, to help you get the results you want to achieve.

What do you need to bring?

You will need to bring your flask and a packed lunch. You will also need to bring a notebook and pencil,  and an apron (or wear old clothes).

I like to take photographs of people working during sessions. I do use them on my website and sometimes on social media. Do let me know if you would prefer that I didn't use photographs of your work, or with you in them, for this purpose. I will respect your wishes.

Venue

The workshops are being held at Westbury Arts Centre, Foxcovert Road, Shenley Wood, MK56AA. See the map on this page for directions.
