Since living in Bedford Street from 1999 to 2005, I've been fascinated by the historical works in Wolverton. Having used the train to commute to school/college/University for years in my youth, I've always had a soft spot for trains and anything related to journeys by rail. I've travelled on trains in various countries across Europe and beyond; and marvelled at the engineering achievements and hard work of the people who made rail travel possible.
I decided to do some paintings, textile work and prints based on the Wolverton works windows (gas works and railway works). Windows are often the only means by which the general public can catch a glimpse of what goes on inside a building; but over time, they become part of our personal, social and historical landscape; windows into the past...
